HOW CAN I HELP?
Have one hour, or several? Have time during the day, evenings, or weekends? Want to take on a leadership role, or be part of a team for a special event or activity? There are so many ways you can make a difference at Patrick Henry.
We are still in need of volunteers to help with the following. Please contact Michelle Gentry if you have any questions.
Advisory Council On Instruction Representative – Represent Patrick Henry in this County-wide advisory council. Estimated time: 1-2 hours per month.
After-School Enrichment – We are seeking a co-chair to manage the scheduling, registration, enrollment and communications related to the extra-curricular classes offered three times each school year.
Room Parent – Be the point of contact for the classroom teacher and the PTA for families in your child’s classroom. Includes coordinating special activities and events with the teacher, volunteering as needed for classroom and PTA activities, and coordinating the class baskets for the silent auction and teacher appreciation. Estimated time: varies depending on grade level and teacher.
School Beautification – Be the lead chair for maintaining our Habitat and Gardens. Work with Ms. Spranger to coordinate volunteers to weed, trim and mulch flower beds, specifically in the fall and spring. Estimated time for coordination: 2 hours per month. Or, have a green thumb, but don’t have the time to coordinate volunteers? Look for the chance to get out there and weed, mulch, plant, etc with other families.
School Sign – We’re looking for 4-6 volunteers to help with updating the Patrick Henry School sign. The sign reminds our families of all the important events happening at the school! It takes about 30-40 minutes to do the update. If we get enough volunteers, we would only need your help once every 4-6 weeks. We update the school sign twice a month during the hours the school office is open on either Thursday or Friday (which ever is convenient to you). This can be a fun activity for you and your Patrick Henry Student and it helps with reading and spelling.
SPECIAL EVENT OPPORTUNITIES
Reflections – Co-chair this National PTA contest celebrating the arts, photography & writing. Work with teacher volunteers and families to submit students’ work. Fall Activity. Estimated time: 10-15 hours.
December Cookie Exchange – Coordinate donations of cookies for teachers. Estimated time: 2-3 hours in December.
Read-a-Thon – Volunteer for this fundraising, education and community-building event! Volunteers will help with marketing, coordinating in school activities and distributing prizes. Look for more information on volunteering or contact our coordinators!
School Pictures – We need volunteers the day of to help coordinate on-site. Shifts will be 2 hours each and 4 volunteers will be needed. Look for a call for volunteers!
Silent Auction – Volunteer to serve on the committee that plans and implements this annual fundraiser in February. We are also seeking two new co-chairs to work with the current chairs and lead this event beginning the 2017-2018 school year.
Silver Diner Fundraiser – We are seeking a volunteer to organize this annual Patrick Henry community night at Silver Diner.
Book Fair – Celebrate reading! We need many volunteers to help kids select and purchase books throughout this 3-day book fair. This is an opportunity to celebrate reading while raising funds for our library. Look for more information on volunteering or contact our coordinators.
